The AYSA board of directors has changed the format of the 2011 State Cup from double elimination to a more traditional pool play/knockout format.
Each age group will be divided into a series of smaller brackets, typically ranging in sizes of 3-5.
* Each team will play all other teams within its bracket.
* Each team will only play one game per day.
* Depending on the overall size of the age group, either the top team in each bracket
or the top two teams in each bracket will advance to the knockout phase.
* The knockout phase will begin with either 4 or 8 teams, depending on the overall number of teams
in the age group.
1. Week 1 (April 18-22) will consist of pool play.
a. Depending on the size of the bracket/age group, teams may play matches on Wednesday evening,
Friday evening, Saturday and/or Sunday.
b. Weekday play will be limited to matches between teams living in the same geographic area, i.e.,
weekday matches between teams from Tucson and Phoenix or similar distances will NOT be held.
2. Week 2 will consist of the remaining pool play matches and quarterfinals (knockout phase) if required.
a. Some Wednesday of Friday evening matches may be required.
b. These matches will be held April 25-29, 2012.
3. Week 3 will consist of semifinals, 3rd Place matches and Championships.
a. No Wednesday or Friday evening matches.
b. Semifinal matches will be held on Saturday, May 5th.
c. Championship and 3rd Place matches will be held on Sunday, May 6th.
d. It is anticipated that Week 3 matches will be held at the Grande Sports World Complex in
Casa Grande, contingent on availibility of those fields.
