The Tucson Soccer Academy is proud to announce that Christian Garcia is the 20011-12 recipient of the Nicholson Scholarship Award.
The Nicholson Scholarship is named after Mike Nicholson, the late husband of TSA board member Cathy Nicholson. Mike passed away a few years ago and was a long-time supporter of TSA. The scholarship is chosen by the league coaches.
“It’s an honor to be given this,’’ said Garcia, 16, a member of the 95 Boys Red team. “I know a lot of really good players have received this award. It gives me more reason to play and do well and work harder.’’
Garcia, a junior at Salpointe Catholic High School, is one of the premier players in the state. He’s been with TSA since he was 10 years old.
“All of us are very pleased that Christian Garcia was awarded the Nicholson Scholarship,’’ said Wolfgang Weber, the 95’s coach and TSA Board Member. “Christian exemplifies the qualities we promote at TSA - both on and off the field of play. He is an exceptional player and person. His work-rate, his determination, his humility and his leadership by example has earned him the appreciation and admiration of his teammates and the coaching staff alike. Not only does Christian give his best effort for his team each and every time - but he also inspires others to do the same.”
Other recipients of the award are: Chloe Newell (10), Nico Dougall (09), Minh Vu (08), Kaity Ingram (07) and Daniel Polanco (06).
